More new music added, more to come

We've added another nice batch of new music to our Marvelous Mix - and we're working our way through more good stuff that's come our way.

This is just a quick list of our latest adds -- we haven't had time to write a more detailed post because we've been busy dealing with some technical issues (nothing that's affected our broadcast, thankfully!).

St. Paul and the Broken Bones
New this week:
- "All I Ever Wonder," a brand-new track by St. Paul and the Broken Bones. Their album Sea of Noise is due in September.

- "Fool," the latest single from Basia Bulat's album Good Advice

- "Tell Moses," a rollicking gospel-style song from Colvin & Earle, the new collaborative release by Shawn Colvin & Steve Earle.

- Another track from the lovely new Sarah Jarosz album Undercurrent - "Take Another Turn."

- And not really a new track, but a new release -- "Turn It On, Turn It Up" by Roomful of Blues from the newly issued Alligator Records 45th Anniversary Collection.

We're also been checking out some more indie artists and expect to be adding some new names to our playlist soon, so stay tuned!

Veterans and newcomers add to our Marvelous Mix

So much good new music came out in the past week, it's like, "Wow."

But actually we don't mean that tripping single by Beck. Okay, we might play it now and then for amusement, but we're more interested in these other new releases:

Paul Simon's Stranger to Stranger shows that this master can still mix captivating combinations of words and sounds. Some songs tell stories, others draw on emotions and inner thoughts. We've added the meditative title track to our New Music rotation this week, and you'll hear other cuts turning up in our Marvelous Mix in the coming days.

Hat tip to David Dye at World Cafe for calling our attention to Bonnie Bishop. From Texas by way of Nashville, she spent a dozen or so years on the road as a country musician but goes in more of a soul/blues direction on her new album, Ain't Who I Was. Her powerful voice soars over a Motown-R&B sound in the track we've picked for our New Music bin, "Too Late."

Also out of Nashville but with more of a pop/rock/indie sound come The Saint Johns. The duo of Louis Johnson and Jordan Meredith recently released their debut full-length album, Dead of Night. Check out "Falling Back to You," our first pick from the collection.

And check out another duo, Australia's Falls. The story goes that Simon Rudston-Brown and Melinda Kirwin were a couple, then they weren't, but continued writing and performing together. “Our songs are at times deeply personal,” Kirwin told The Wall Street Journal. "They’re raw, they’re real, and they’re very honest.” The two traveled to Omaha, Nebraska, to record with producer Mike Mogis, and the result is an album called, um, Omaha. We're starting with the opening track, "Let In The Light."

Meanwhile The Head and the Heart have announced they're working on their third album, and dropped the first single, "All We Ever Knew." It's an expansive, upbeat song that will have concert crowds la-la-la-ing along.

We've got more fresh music coming from Colvin & Earle, Sarah Jarosz, The Wild Feathers and more so - as they say - Stay Tuned!

The newest music in our Marvelous Mix

This week we've caught up with recent releases by Bob Mould and Mary Chapin Carpenter, picked up a new single by Joseph and received an exclusive new track from SteppingSTONE Band.

Bob Mould's Patch the Sky continues the late-career success of a middle-aged punk rocker. He's reflective in the opening track, "Voices In My Head" - "Time to say farewell/To all the ghosts and demons ... I decide to listen to myself." Good plan.

Mary Chapin Carpenter's new release, The Things That We Are Made Of, is full of beautiful, contemplative songs. The album is probably best listened to as a whole on a quiet, rainy afternoon. But we've plucked the most upbeat song, "Map of My Heart," for our New Music rotation.

You've heard us play New Jersey indie outfit SteppingSTONE Band, who combine rock with touches of country fiddle and very personal lyrics. Their brand-new track "Long Road" is a slow-building song of loss that evokes the effort to find hope at a moment of tragedy.

SteppingSTONE Band
SteppingSTONE Band also uses music to raise funds for an important cause, the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

From Portland, Ore., come sisters Natalie, Allison and Meegan Closner, who perform under the name Joseph. (Because, why not.) Their new single "White Flag" is a no-retreat/no-surrender anthem. They're not waving the white flag, they're burning it. Their album I'm Alone, No You're Not is due in August.

We've also added more tracks from the latest albums by Eric Clapton and Mudcrutch and from the debut EP of Hannah Gill & The Hours.
