Submitting music to Birch Street Radio

Musicians and their managers or publicists often ask whether we accept music for possible airplay, and how they can submit tracks.

Yes we do accept submissions. And yes, we listen to them - although sometimes we get backed up and it takes a while to get to them all.

If you'd like to get your music played on our station, here's what we recommend:

1 - LISTEN to Birch Street Radio! There's no point sending us music that's far outside our format. Spend some time listening to the station to get a sense of the various music styles we play. You can also look here to see our playlists for the past seven days. Roughly speaking, we play an "adult alternative" mix of rock, alt-rock, pop-rock, folk-rock, singer-songwriters, bits of blues and more. We like variety, innovation, originality - but we don't just play anything and everything.

2 - If you believe your music would fit in nicely, send us an email at birchstreetradio@gmail.com
  • In the email you can include links to downloadable audio files (preferably high-bitrate mp3s, but we can work with other formats too).
  • Or if you'd rather test our interest first, you can send links to streaming audio (on Soundcloud, Bandcamp, YouTube or whatever). If we decide we'd like to play your music, we'll then request downloadable files.
3 - Also include info about yourselves! Send us your EPK if you have one, or else write a brief blurb about your band, where you're based, your music style, etc. And be sure to include links to your internet presence - in particular, your website, Facebook page and Twitter handle.

In most cases, we'll get back to you within a week or two and let you know if we're at least considering your music.

We try out a lot of new and indie music on our specialty shows - The Bistro (a daily hour of acoustic and softer sounds) and The Detour (a nightly trip where anything goes!). We promote those shows on Facebook and Twitter, and if we play your music we will @ you there. Certain episodes of The Bistro and The Detour are also archived on our Mixcloud page for later listening. Some tracks from those shows also work their way into our general playlist.

If we really like a tune, we may pick it as a featured New Music track. In that case, it will get a brief write-up on our website plus Twitter and Facebook mentions. Featured tracks get about a dozen spins a week for three weeks, then gradually settle back into our big mix of thousands of songs.

We always appreciate retweets, likes, follows and other social media boosts to help spread the word about our independent, free and noncommercial internet-radio station!

IMPORTANT:
  • Only submit music to which you own the rights, or have permission from the rights-holders to distribute for streaming.
  • By submitting music to us, you give us unrestricted permission to stream it to the public worldwide.
  • We respect copyright and will not distribute physical or digital copies of your music in any form.
